- Barney has been a long time member of the Internet support group Dialysis_Support,
which is a Yahoo egroup and has over 450 members. Recently Barney had been
sharing the challenges he was facing, leading up to and after his recent transplant,
these posts touched us all and his sudden silence had us all concerned. I
want to thank the authors of this site for sharing Barney»s story; it is clear
now that I only knew one facet of this remarkable man. Over the years Barney
provided inspiration to kidney patients all over the world through his example,
he is going to be greatly missed by our community of kidney patients. My deep
condolences to the ones closest to Barney that he left behind, you had an
extraordinary Son, Brother and Friend.

- Barney and I were friends for nearly 30 years, so I have many memories.
I remember
Walking down Broadway/up to Volunteer park/along the Pacifica pier,
walking with Barney listening for his observations, questions, anecdotes from
his viewpoint which was nearly a foot different than mine.
Misreading our bond, people often mistook us as married which amused us immensely.
The funniest time was probably when we went shopping for a tricycle for Lincoln
who was thought to be our child by the salesperson.
I remember later walking down 15th with Barney and Deborah and Gail and Gina,
and Lincoln riding his brand new trike.
I remember
many adventures shared and too many left undone.
I remember
I will always remember
I love you Barney.

- Dear Mr. & Mrs. Levenspiel & Family:
Please accept our deepest and most heartfelt condolences for your tremendous
loss. I know that words cannot heal your hearts at this most difficult time
but please know that our loving thoughts embrace you.
Barney had a very special soul and it was reflected in all things that he
set out to do. Just as some stars shine brighter than others in the heavens,
Barney shone as one of the brightest on earth.

- We enjoyed chatting with Barney when he would go out for walks with Lily.
He was a wonderful man who always had a kind word to say. There was a peacefulness
about him that left us uplifted. We will miss his sweet presence in our lives.

- I have known Barney since officially joining the 4-H Japanese Committee.
Over the past twelve years I have gotten to know that he was one of the nicest
people I have met. I remember on meeting in Seattle when he brought me a twig
of flowers from one of his trees because he knew I liked flowers. During the
time I have known him, I recognized that he was a true professional, with
caring and concern for the young people and the program. His efforts on behalf
of Labo and the exchange has a lasting impact on the program - his ability
to provide cultural insights on both sides, his concern for the success of
the program and his gentleness and caring for all he worked with.
Thank you Barney.
