- Barney has been one of my true friends for the past 12 or more years. He
was a wonderful man and was an inspiration to work with. He meant so much
to Labo International Exchange Foundation and was wonderful to work with.
He was a huge help to make the Labo/New England Homestay Program so successful
and we all here in Maine and New England will truly miss him. He will be hard
to replace.
Sincerely,
Clyde L. Ferris

- To Barney's family,
My heart aches as I send my sincere condolences. Barney was a special human
being -- intelligent, kind, simple, quick-witted, a good listener and friend.
He was driven to excellence and was incredibly committed to Labo and the exchange
program. I met Barney in 1988 as he first faced his illness and I began working
on the Japanese Exchange. His efforts were responsible, in large part, for
the ongoing success of the 4-H Japanese Exchange.
The inner strength he displayed in face of his illness served as an inspiration
to others. Barney is still with us in spirit. The full extent of his impact
will continue to unfold as time goes by.
Miss you, Barney!
Sincerely,

- Barney was one of those special people whom we are fortunate to meet as
we travel through life. He was always positve, optimistic and understanding.
He fought such a hard fight. We will miss him very much.
A special note to his family..... You raised a wonderful man - you must be
so proud of him.

- To All Barney's Family,
As I go about my work today, I'm reminded of Barney over & over...messages
from Barney of things to do for our upcoming exchange, a letter in my drawer
to my daughter when chosen as a Labo intern...He was a wonderful, gentle man
who was very wise in his ability to liase between the people of two cultures.
This allowed our work as coordinators of the exchange program to be very smooth.
He absorbed the wrinkles.
Every small request, and there were many, was looked after without delay.
We counted on him and he helped out without fail.
Barney was truly a pleasure to work with.
I looked forward to seeing him each January as the Canadian coordinators met.
I miss him...You must miss him terribly!
Sincerely, Michelle
