I spotted the Barney Levenspiel memorial site on the internet today. Barney was a good friend about 30 years ago. I used to live with a young lady named Johny McDonald and they played double fiddle together, beautifully. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, although I heard years ago that he had serious health problems. What a nice man. He really impressed me with his qualities of sincerity, love and compassion.
I was wondering about him this morning and typed his name into google and found his memorial site. Please accept my condolences.

Barney and we met in Tokyo and were good friends for over 20 years. When we first met him, he was living in the apartment in our neighborhood. So he occasionally came over to our house and joined us for dinner. Barney and we became closer through Labo. He used to show up in Santa Clause costume at Christmas parties and surprised us. When my sister was in Seattle through Labo Exchange Program, Barney showed up on the last day as she was going back to Japan. He came running after the bus and stop it; just to give her a hug. Even after 10 years, my sister gets excited telling this story about him. Barney had such a big impact on our lives. He was my inspiration for coming to the U.S., going to school, and pursuing a career. Barney has been almost like a part of the family and he will always remain in our hearts. Sincerely, Kimiko Hojo and the Hojo Family

I've just wept over Morris's moving tribute and want to add my few words. Barney was born just 3 weeks before my son Steve - also in Lewisburg. He and Bekki were playmates of my kids from very early on. Barney always had a presence, and as a 12 year old he was an amazing boy/man, telling me with wonderful and grateful confidence that his family's place at Otter Rock was "the most beautiful place in the world". I never doubted it. I don't doubt either that he was pretty beautiful himself.

Barney was the first boy that I ever kissed - he was 9 and I was 10years old. Barneys family came to England for a Sabbatical and lived opposite us. It was the most exciting year as we were carried along on the "Levenspiel train" having all sorts of adventures - playing "bloody murders" in the dark, doing long cycles rides and having trips in the famous vw bus. The trip ended with the "Kiss" - it was obvious then that Barney was very special - I wish I had known him as an adult..

Barney was my friend in high school. My memories are full of him. I remember: Making our own recipe for fruit leather and drying it all over the kitchen counter – it didn’t work. (Did we apologize for the mess, Mary Jo?)
Dancing until 5:00 a.m. and then going out to breakfast.
Driving home in the rain while Barney and my dad argued over whether you’d get wetter running or walking.
Walking home together after an evening at the hospital waiting for news on Lorene Meek’s condition, knowing it was bad.
Barney’s random phone calls: “Just calling to say I’m taking a shower and going to bed.”
Barney standing on the deck outside the glass doors, grinning.
Walking and laughing.
Dancing and laughing.
And laughing, and laughing.
Oh Barney, it’s been so long, but I can still hear your laughter.
